President Joe Biden confirmed reports circulating Thursday that revealed the location of a second set of classified documents found from Biden’s time as vice president. According to those reports, the second batch of documents was found at a storage space in the garage of President Biden’s home in Wilmington, Delaware. The discovery comes just days after it was revealed that attorneys for Biden had discovered a “small number” of classified documents at his former office space in Washington, D.C. back in November.
“My lawyers reviewed other places where documents from my time as vice president were stored, and they finished the review last night,” Biden said when asked Thursday at a news conference on the latest inflation numbers. “They discovered a small number of documents of classified markings in storage areas and file cabinets in my home and my personal library.”
The Justice Department has already said it was investigating the first batch of classified documents. Biden’s comments on the location of the second batch of classified documents came just hours before Attorney General Merrick Garland was expected to hold a news conference. The subject of the news conference wasn’t immediately clear.
“As I said earlier this week, people know I take classified documents and classified materials seriously. I also said we’re cooperating fully and completely with the Justice Department’s review,” Biden said. “The Department of Justice was immediately notified and the lawyers arranged for the Department of Justice to take possession of the document. So you’re going to see, we’re going to see all of this unfold, I’m confident.”
The ongoing developments regarding these classified documents have proven to be a political headache for Biden, with a growing number of Republicans calling for a more intense investigation. Many are drawing comparisons to the ongoing investigation into classified documents found at former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence.
“Here’s an individual that sat on ‘60 Minutes’ that was so concerned about President Trump’s documents locked in behind, and now we find that this is a vice president keeping it for years out in the open in different locations,” newly-elected House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., said. “I think Congress has to investigate this.”
