New changes are coming to the 2022 NCAA Basketball Championship: the NCAA is now allowing women’s Division I basketball teams to use the phrase ‘March Madness’ for their national tournament branding. For decades, only men’s basketball teams have been allowed to use the phrase.
A statement by the NCAA says the decision to include women in the March Madness branding is “one of the first steps to achieving greater equity between the women’s and men’s championships.”
The change comes nearly 50 years after the passage of Title IX.
