Analysis: Media coverage of Trump 2024 announcement runs gamut

Full story

Donald Trump announced he’s running for president in 2024, putting the controversial figure back in the spotlight. The media coverage of his announcement has ranged from glowing to sarcastic to blunt.

The Rupert Murdoch-owned New York Post put a small line on the bottom of the cover referring readers all the way back to page 26. The largely sarcastic article filed as a “Post Staff Report” stated a Florida retiree and avid golfer Donald Trump made an announcement no political pundit saw coming.

Sean Hannity’s show on Fox News, another Murdoch-owned outlet, is still providing positive coverage of the former president.

This looks like Trump in as good of form as you’ve ever seen him,” commentator Pete Hegseth said during Hannity’s show.

NPR and the Washington Post, meanwhile, took no prisoners. NPR led by stating Trump tried to overthrow the 2020 election and inspired a deadly riot in a desperate attempt to keep himself in power. WaPo described Trump as the “twice-impeached former president.”

As Trump campaigns, the press coverage will continue to vary, but a key question will be: How much of it will he get?
