Full story

President Joe Biden was slow and feeble as he made his way down the steps of Air Force One on Wednesday, July 17. The White House said the 81-year-old is experiencing a “general malaise” after testing positive for COVID-19. He is now scheduled to self isolate in Delaware, rather than campaign.

The bad news is compounding.

Axios reported that several top Democrats claim rising pressure could lead Biden to drop out of the race as soon as this weekend.

“His choice is to be one of history’s heroes, or to be sure of the fact that there’ll never be a Biden presidential library,” a close friend of Biden told Axios. “I pray that he does the right thing. He’s headed that way.”

Behind the scenes, top elected Democrats are adding to the pressure.

ABC News reported that Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., went to see the president in Rehoboth Beach on Saturday and delivered a blunt message: It would be best if Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race.

According to CNN, “former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi privately told President Joe Biden in a recent conversation that polling shows that the president cannot defeat Donald Trump and that Biden could destroy Democrats’ chances of winning the House in November if he continues seeking a second term.”

Meanwhile, the Washington Post reported that “former President Barack Obama has told allies in recent days that President Biden’s path to victory has greatly diminished and he thinks the president needs to seriously consider the viability of his candidacy…”

As if the behind-the-scenes pressure from top elected officials wasn’t enough, top liberal pundits are turning on Biden too.

“A bullet couldn’t stop Trump. A virus just stopped Biden,” commentator Van Jones said during CNN’s coverage of the RNC.

“The sobering message he got yesterday from congressional leaders and his biggest fundraiser was simple: ‘We’re losing, you’re losing and you’re going to run out of money because the donors have left,’” MSNBC host Joe Scarborough said.

Biden is scheduled to be formally nominated in early August, a couple weeks before the Democratic National Convention. That was planned due to a deadline in Ohio which requires candidates to be submitted for ballot printing.

Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., both worked to delay the virtual nomination. At one point, it could have taken place as early as July. Party leaders announced it’s officially on for Aug. 1
