‘Clown show’: Congress surprised its approval rating is high as 12%

The House Oversight Committee held an impeachment hearing into President Biden on Wednesday, March 20. According to multiple members of Congress, the hearing could be described as a “clown show.”

“It was a clown show man, you know that,” Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., said.

“The American people know that this has become a clown show,” Rep. Jared Moskowitz, D-Fla., said. “Let’s do the people’s business. Let’s stop being the most dysfunctional and unproductive Congress since the Great Depression.”

Polls show that the people are not happy with the way Congress is conducting its business. According to Gallup, Congress had a 12% approval rating in February; a precipitous drop from the 15% it had for the three months prior. However, the legislative branch doesn’t just have a low approval, it has an 83% disapproval.

During Wednesday’s hearing, two witnesses with criminal histories testified, one via teleconference from federal prison. A lawmaker wore a Putin Halloween mask, and Republicans left an empty chair for Hunter Biden, who did not attend.

Straight Arrow News asked multiple members, with the impeachment hearing in mind, is it any wonder Congress has a 12% approval rating?

“I’m surprised it’s got as high as a 12% rating,” Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C., said. “I’m surprised it’s got more than a 2% rating. The same thing from Biden. How he has a 32% rating is, with his actions, surprises me.”

“I’m surprised it’s that high,” Burchett responded.

“No,” Moskowitz said. “So let’s stop. Let’s stop wasting millions of dollars of taxpayer money. Let’s work on lowering the costs for Americans. Let’s work on helping our allies Ukraine and Israel.”

Moskowitz was the man behind the mask on Wednesday. He said he did it to send a message to Republicans.

“They know the genesis, the beginning, the birth of the fake impeachment into the president was Russian disinformation,” Moskowitz told SAN. “And yet, they still want to move forward. So some people are visual learners. So that’s why I was doing it. I didn’t do it in the hearing, that would have been inappropriate. I did it in the hallway. But let’s be clear, the last 15 months in Oversight has been a Halloween horror show, and when you go to a Halloween horror show, you wear a mask.”

According to a Pew Research poll, American’s top five policy priorities for 2024 are strengthening the economy, defending against terrorism, reducing influence of money in politics, reducing health care costs and improving education.
