Full story

Hunter Biden’s good friend and business partner Devon Archer spoke to the House Oversight Committee Monday, July 31, during a four hour, closed-door interview. Archer described how Hunter used his father’s name and position as leverage when doing business overseas.

This story is being covered by news outlets on both the right and left. The Straight Arrow News Media Miss™ tool shows headlines from left-leaning outlets are focusing on Hunter Biden selling the “illusion of access” to his father, while right-leaning outlets are focusing on the 20-plus phone calls between then-Vice President Biden and Hunter’s business partners.

As per Archer’s testimony, there’s one fact that news outlets can’t ignore: Joe Biden did not tell the truth when he said he never discussed business with his son.

“Mr. Archer’s testimony underscored that Mr. Biden had made false or misleading statements regarding his family members’ finances. During the 2020 presidential debate, Mr. Biden claimed that no one in his family had received money from China, when, in fact, Hunter Biden and his business associates took in millions from a Chinese firm,” The New York Times wrote. “In 2019, Mr. Biden also repeatedly said he had ‘never discussed’ and had ‘never spoken to’ Hunter Biden about his business dealings.”

Left-leaning outlets are citing Democrats on the panel who said that while Hunter Biden was selling the “illusion” of access to his father, Joe Biden was never a party to his son’s business dealings.

One of the Democrats in the room, Rep. Dan Goldman, D-N.Y., also described testimony regarding at least 20 phone calls between then-Vice President Joe Biden and Hunter’s business partners.

“The witness was unequivocal and stated very clearly that they never discussed any business on that phone conversations [sic]. There were niceties, and there was a hello and they talked about the weather or whatever it was, but there was never any business,” Goldman told reporters.

Right-leaning outlets are focusing on a release from the committee’s Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., who shared that Archer said then-Vice President Biden spoke with Hunter’s business partners not just on the phone, but also met with them in person on multiple occasions. Archer said Vice President Biden had tea with a Chinese CEO and dinner with a Russian oligarch.

“Hunter Biden and top executives of Burisma Holdings ‘called D.C.’ in 2015 to ask the Obama administration to help fire the Ukrainian prosecutor investigating the firm,” Fox reported.

“Devon Archer’s testimony today confirms Joe Biden lied to the American people when he said he had no knowledge about his son’s business dealings and was not involved. Joe Biden was ‘the brand’ that his son sold around the world to enrich the Biden family,” Comer said in a statement.

Comer said the Oversight Committee will continue the investigation as it tries to determine if President Biden is “corrupt and compromised.”
