A report found the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is funding an anti-terror college program that has lumped the Republican Party, as well as Christian and conservative groups, into the same category as Nazis. The report comes from the Media Research Center, a conservative watchdog group.

The DHS’s Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention Grant Program provides funds to various institutions to help “prevent targeted violence and terrorism.” According to the Media Resource Center report, $352,109 went to the University of Dayton.
Dayton caused controversy in conservative circles in November 2021 when a researcher presented the “Pyramid of Far-Right Radicalization” at a conference. The base of the pyramid featured the Republican Party, Fox News, and groups like the Heritage Foundation, the Christian Broadcasting Network and the National Rifle Association (NRA).
At the top of the pyramid was hate groups like neo-Nazi paramilitary group The Base and pro-Nazi publication The Daily Stormer. The conference was linked in a footnote on the university’s application for DHS funding for the college’s anti-terror program.
“This terrorism task force is engaged in an active effort to demonize and eliminate Christian, conservative, and Republican organizations using federal taxpayer dollars,” Brent Bozell, founder and president of the Media Research Center, said. “What we have uncovered calls for criminal prosecution. The American people need to know those who are abusing their positions in the federal government will be held accountable for their criminal behavior.”
