Early and absentee voting numbers continue to soar with Election Day now just 12 days away. Voting numbers jumped by more than 5 million in just the last 24 hours.
According the political data firm TargetEarly, 24,040,251 voters have cast their ballots in this election, as of Thursday, Oct. 24.
Party breakdown is important as Republicans operatives are now saying that the early voting is very encouraging for the GOP, in an area where Democrats have done historically well.
CNN reported that Republican percentages are up in key battleground states including North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Arizona and Nevada compared to four years ago.
Overall, 11,745,049 registered Democrats have already voted. 10,234,049 Republicans have done the same. Additionally, 2,061,153 voters identify as “other,” meaning unaffiliated or a different party than a Democrat or Republican.
Looking back at 2020, the U.S. Census Bureau found 155 million voters cast a ballot. The last election had a 66.8% turnout of eligible voters. Furthermore, 69.4% of voters used what the Census Bureau called nontraditional methods, meaning either early or absentee voting.
As the numbers of early voters continues to rise in this election, one thing remains clear, interest appears extremely high.
