Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook’s parent company Meta, is set to be questioned in court over the privacy of the social media platform’s users. The deposition is part of an ongoing lawsuit in California related to Facebook’s former partnership with Cambridge Analytica, a company surrounded by scandal for harvesting and sharing user data.
According to a joint filing late Tuesday, Zuckerberg will be deposed for six hours. Outgoing COO Sheryl Sandberg will be questioned for five hours, and incoming COO Javier Olivan will be questioned for three hours.
The lawsuit alleges Facebook, and therefore Zuckerberg, violated consumer privacy laws by sharing users’ personal information with Cambridge Analytica. Facebook has previously said its privacy practices are consistent with its disclosures.
The news comes as Facebook spirals in scandal with lawsuits, whistleblowers, and concerns mounting from users. It has prompted bipartisan discussion on regulating the platform.
According to the filing, there are depositions in the case scheduled through Sept. 20.
