According to court documents, former U.S. Marine Ray Epps was charged with a misdemeanor in connection to the Jan. 6 Capitol riots. According to the documents filed on Tuesday, Sept. 19, Epps is expected to plead guilty.
This past July, Epps, a former Trump supporter, filed a lawsuit against Fox News Channel, alleging the outlet framed him as a “scapegoat” as part of a conspiracy theory.
“In the aftermath of the events of January 6th, Fox News searched for a scapegoat to blame other than Donald Trump or the Republican Party. Eventually, they turned on one of their own,” the lawsuit said.
Epps is charged with disorderly conduct on restricted grounds, according to court documents. In the lawsuit against Fox, Epps said he had concerns about the election and felt it was his duty as a citizen to protest. Epps added that he did not believe violence was appropriate.
Epps is expected to plead guilty during a scheduled plea agreement hearing on Wednesday, Sept. 20.
