Social media platform X has unveiled an updated version of its chatbot — Grok 2.0. What it can do when creating images from a prompt has captivated some, while igniting concern among others. The new AI-powered feature is raising significant questions about the legality and ethics of AI-generated photos.
Premium users can now use Grok 2.0 for “prompt-based image generation,” which allows users to create detailed images from text inputs.
X users are eagerly sharing their results.
One user shared a portrait of former President Barack Obama, generated from the prompt “44th President of the United States of America.” They also generated aged versions of Presidents John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan.
Another user tried to turn celebrities into superheroes. They requested, “Make Elon Musk into Superman.”
However, some prompts are testing the boundaries of AI image generation. For instance, a user asked for a “digital illustration of Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk engaged in a UFC-style cage fight,” showcasing a scenario that never happened but now exists in the digital realm.
Another creative yet speculative request involved Musk meeting an alien on Mars.
But the AI’s capabilities are also being used to generate more controversial imagery. Gizmodo highlighted a photo of Taylor Swift piloting a plane toward the Twin Towers—a scenario that has raised ethical concerns from some users.
Additionally, there are images like Mario snorting cocaine, which some users found surprising.
While some of the generated images may be intended as jokes, others have ventured into extreme and graphic territory. These include AI-generated images of Mickey Mouse committing a school shooting and disturbing visuals of dead children at the White House.
Grok 2.0 not only showcases the advancements in AI but also highlights the lack of regulation and oversight. The launch of this feature is sparking a renewed debate on the AI restrictions, if any, that should be in place.
