The current Iranian regime has been around for 44 years. Over the weekend, the Islamic Republic celebrated the anniversary of its revolution. But as the Iranian government celebrated its reign, it also faced some of the staunchest opposition it has seen in its 44 year history.
Iran’s government held organized rallies and celebrations on Saturday, but during the president’s live speech hailing his regime, anti-Iranian government hackers were able to break the livestream, interrupting the president’s speech on television. The hackers played a prerecorded one minute piece which depicted men in masks along with a voice that shouted “death to the Islamic Republic.”
The Iranian government is facing its strongest challenges from an anti-government resistance among Iranian people. Protests in the country have been consistent for six months now and are still gaining momentum.
