There are approximately 36 million Latinos eligible to vote in the November election. As a result, former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are both courting the Latino or Hispanic vote.
A new poll indicates that Harris is leading Trump among Latinos. However, the former president is doing better with this particular voting block than he did in 2020 or even 2016.
An NBC News/Telemundo/CNBC poll of 1,000 registered Latino voters found that 54% support Harris compared to 40% for Trump. Meanwhile, 6% are unsure or will not vote.
Donald Trump only received 27% of Latino support in 2020 when he lagged behind Joe Biden by 36 percentage points. In 2016, just 19% of Latinos said they would vote for Trump.
When it comes to the issues, The NBC News/Telemundo poll found that Donald Trump did better than Kamala Harris on securing the U.S.-Mexico border and controlling immigration. He also leads on inflation, the economy and cost of living.
Latino voters favor Harris over Trump on issues including protecting immigrant rights, abortion and addressing the concerns of the Latino community.
The results are significant for various including out west where two key battleground states, Nevada and Arizona, have strong Latino or Hispanic populations and will be pivotal in the election.
