Taylor Swift’s recent endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris appears to have had minimal impact on potential voters, according to a new ABC poll. Swift announced her support for Harris in an Instagram post on Tuesday, 10, immediately after the debate between Harris and former President Donald Trump.
The poll, conducted Sept. 11-13, found that 81% of people are unmoved by Swift’s political opinions. More respondents said they are less likely to vote for Harris because of Swift’s endorsement than those who said they are more likely to support Harris due to it. Only 6% indicated they are more likely to vote for Harris now, while 13% said the endorsement makes them less likely to support her.
Among those polled, 29% identified as Democrats, 29% as Republicans, and 30% as Independents.
The same poll also found that most people believe Harris won the debate with Trump, with 58% saying Harris performed better compared to 38% who said Trump had the better night.
The day after the debate, Harris’ campaign quickly capitalized on Swift’s endorsement by making friendship bracelets — a signature of Swift’s — and selling them on the campaign’s website.
The day after the debate, Fox News asked Trump for his thoughts on Swift endorsing Harris. Trump responded, “I was not a Taylor Swift fan; it was just a matter of time. She couldn’t possibly endorse Biden. You couldn’t endorse him. But she’s a very liberal person. She seems to always endorse a Democrat.”
Trump reiterated his sentiments this week, posting “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT” in all caps on Truth Social.
Harris’ campaign responded to Trump’s Truth Social post with a statement full of Taylor Swift song references: “Donald Trump’s week of whining and spouting conspiracy theories has voters on both sides of the aisle ready to Forget That He Existed. The American people want to be Out of the Woods of the chaos and division of the Trump era, leave behind the Blank Space of Trump’s broken promises, and Begin Again by electing Vice President Harris.”
