The 51st Iditarod kicked off Sunday, seeing 33 dog-pulled sleds begin the 1,000-mile trek across the snowy Alaskan landscape. One of the racers this year is Danish musher Mille Porsild, who is competing for the fourth time in the Last Great Race on Earth.
When she’s not mushing, Porsild, who was named Rookie of the Year in 2020, is posting videos of her life as a musher in the mud and muck.
Not surprisingly, the stars of her videos are her dogs.
“For me to stand here it takes a village, and I really mean that we’re the ones that are heralded as ‘the musher,’ it’s the dogs that are the superstars and then it’s all the people that stand behind us and literally make this happen for us,” she told Straight Arrow News in an interview at the Iditarod.
Porsild bragged on the experience of her team, noting that her dogs range in age from 2 to 9 years old.
“I have a broad age range in my team spanning from 2 to 9 years old, a lot of veterans and what I call the ‘young spark plugs’ in there, they don’t know what they’re doing, so they’re just like, ‘Woo hoo!’” she said.
