The House select committee investigating the January 6 riots has sent a letter to former House Speaker Newt Gingrich requesting an interview regarding his communications with President Donald Trump. The committee asked Gingrich to voluntarily answer questions. Gingrich is an opinion contributor to Straight Arrow News.
The committee said so far in the investigation, they have obtained emails from Gingrich discussing election fraud with Trump’s senior advisors and chief of staff following the 2020 election. Gingrich has been an outspoken critic of the committee saying it is a waste of money and time.
“I think when you have a Republican Congress, this is all going to come crashing down, and the wolves are going to find out that they’re now sheep and they’re the ones who are in fact, I think, face a real risk of jail for the kinds of laws they’re breaking,” Newt Gingrich said.
Meanwhile, former New York police officer Thomas Webster has been sentenced to 10 years for assaulting a police officer on Jan. 6. This is the longest sentence to date for anyone at the Capitol during the riot.
“Today Mr. Webster was held accountable for his actions at the capitol on January 6th,” James Monroe, defense attorney, said. “I hope after today as Americans we can come together and start talking about things like forgiveness, and kindness and peace.”
