Full story

If the 2024 presidential election were held today, former President Donald Trump would beat President Biden by five points, according to a new Harvard-Harris poll. In the survey of more than 2,000 registered voters, Trump received 45% support, while Biden was at 40% and 16% of voters were still undecided.

According to the Straight Arrow News Media Miss™ tool, news outlets that lean left did not cover this poll. Of the 16 organizations that covered this story, 80% are either right or lean right, 20% are center, but none of them are left or lean left.

A New York Post article pointed out that President Biden’s age is a concern: 68% of Americans felt Biden is showing signs that he’s too old to be president. Biden is 80 years old and Trump is 77. Still, about two-thirds of those surveyed believe Biden should not seek a second term.

The Post Millennial reported that 57% of voters said they would consider an independent, moderate candidate and 70% said they want another choice.

The outlet also wrote that the poll found voters think Trump and congressional Republicans understand the economy better than Biden, while independents favor Trump on the economy at 60%. Those who favor Biden on the economy polled at 40%.

But while outlets on the right covered the poll, there is something important they left out. The Real Clear Politics average of polls shows Biden is up by a half a percent. That’s well within the margin of error for any survey, so if the race were held today, pollsters would consider that a toss up.
