Extreme heat will threaten energy reliability in the midwest and western regions of the United States, according to a new report by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation.
The report stated that temperatures in the summer of 2022 will be “above-average,” inciting people to turn up their air conditioners and place more demand on the energy systems in place. Additionally, the extended drought in western states affects hydro and thermal generator output.
Other factors that could affect energy reliability are supply chain issues, wildfires, and cybersecurity threats, experts wrote.
