It’s been a week since the world learned the United States Air Force improperly released the military records of 11 service members to a research firm linked to Democrats. Democratic Party officials have yet to release a statement on the matter.
The names of only five of the 11 Air Force service members are known to the public. All are Republicans who were in office or were running for office during the 2022 midterm elections.
“It’s dirty politics, at least, probably illegal politics at worst,” Rep. Don Bacon, R-Neb., said. Bacon is one of the 11 whose records were exposed to a research firm called The Due Diligence Group.
Bacon said the Air Force sent him a letter in early February. The letter said a man named Abraham Payton, working for Due Diligence, was requesting copies of Bacon’s personnel records for employment and benefit reasons.
“What they did is, they did basically identity theft,” Bacon said. “[Due Diligence] had our Social Security numbers and personal identifying information and convinced the Air Force that they were doing this on our behalf. Of course, we didn’t know about it.”
Iowa Rep. Zach Nunn also had his military records released improperly. But neither Nunn nor Bacon blame the USAF. Instead, they say the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee needs to be held accountable. According to Politico, the DCCC paid more than $100,000 for the records.
Other Air Force service members impacted by the records release include Kevin Dellicker of Pennsylvania and Sam Peters from Nevada.
Jennifer-Ruth Green was also impacted. Green was assaulted during her time in the Air Force, and the record of that assault was part of the information the Democrats paid to get and was used during her 2022 campaign in Indiana.
“That was her personal, private information,” Bacon said. “The Democrats released this to the public last October before the election. And it became quite the controversy.”
While the DCCC has yet to answer any requests for comment on the records release, Bacon said they’ll have to provide answers at some point, even if it is to his lawyer.
