Secret Service, FBI knew of overt calls for violence before Jan. 6

Full story

Newly released emails among federal law enforcement agencies, including the Secret Service and FBI, reveal police knew of explicit threats of violence against the Jan. 6, 2021, electoral certification. The emails show law enforcement held meetings to prepare for the violence and made plans to have an emergency operations center in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building to coordinate the response.

The information was shared among law enforcement agencies in memos that were sent on massive email chains containing dozens of people. One memo from the U.S. Marshals Service sent as the riot was happening revealed police knew of overt calls for violence. That included a post on Parler from four days before the riot that stated: “It’s gonna get violent as we charge the federal buildings and drag out corrupt politicians dead or alive.”

Another email from the National Capital Region Threat Intelligence Consortium to the Secret Service, FBI, Capitol Police and Metropolitan Police Department, warned of protestors attempting to occupy the Capitol with the intent to influence lawmakers to change the election results. It also warned of calls to come with guns.

The NTIC identified several organizations that were going to participate in the Jan. 6 “First Amendment” events, including the Oath Keepers, 3%ers and another group called “Occupy the Capitol”.

The emails were obtained by the organization Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.
