Seven people are dead after a Walmart shooting. It’s the second high profile mass shooting in just three days. This is your morning update.

Seven dead after Walmart mass shooting

A mass shooting at a Virginia Walmart Tuesday night has left seven people dead, including the gunman. Workers at the Chesapeake Walmart said the shooting took place in the back of the store, and police say they found the gunman dead. 

“It’s been just multiple fatalities, multiple injuries. and all the injured were transported to area hospitals,” said Leo Kosinski from the Chesapeake Police Department.

More details are expected to come from officials later today.

This tragedy follows the shooting at a LGBTQ club in Colorado Springs that left five people dead.

Trump taxes to be reviewed by Congress

Former president Donald Trump’s tax documents are going to a House committee. Democrats crossed the final legal battle after the Supreme Court denied an appeal from Trump to keep the tax records concealed.

The tax documents will cover the six years from 2015 to 2021.

However, a shake-up in the House could dismantle the investigative committee.

Calls for DHS secretary resignation

The incoming GOP leadership in the House has unleashed on the Department of Homeland Security. Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas needs to resign or else he could face impeachment proceedings.

It’s the second proposed investigation from Republicans in the House, first announcing an investigation into President Joe Biden.

Now, Secretary Mayorkas named as their second target after conservative lawmakers made a trip to the border.

“If Secretary Mayorkas does not resign, House Republicans will investigate every order, every action, and every failure will determine whether we can begin impeachment inquiry,” McCarthy said. 

Mayorkas has said he has no plans to resign.

World Cup beer ban costing FIFA

Budweiser is seeking $47 million dollars from FIFA after the last-minute decision to ban alcohol inside World Cup stadiums.

Budweiser is the the official supplier of the games. And they now have a massive surplus of alcohol that was supposed to be sold at the World Cup

They tweeted a photo showing their overstock. Now, they say it will now be shipped to the winning country to sell in celebratory fan festivals. 

NCAA held not liable for CTE death

The NCAA is not to blame for brain damage to a football player that ultimately led to his death. Mathew Gee’s widow took the NCAA to court, accusing them of not protecting their players from head injuries, after Gee suffered thousands of hard hits to the head as a linebacker.

It could be a landmark ruling later used in other lawsuits regarding a sports organization’s liability in a player’s cognitive effects after playing sports.

The NCAA has had hundreds of similar lawsuits filed against them over the years. However, this was the first to make it to a jury.
