A study out of George Mason University in collaboration with the nonprofit Starts with Us found “hyper-partisan politicians” received 4 times the press coverage than their bipartisan colleagues did during the 2022 midterm election cycle. A prominent example involved Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Don Bacon (R-NE).
The researchers deemed Rep. Greene “hyper-partisan” and found she was in 335 news items over the course of the 2 months studied. Rep. Bacon was only in 34, even though he was in a tighter race for reelection than Greene. Some of the other “most hyper-partisan” politicians mentioned in the press coverage study include:
- Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI)
- Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA)
- Rep. Norma Torres (D-CA)
- Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA)
- Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ)
- Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL)
