In a Monday afternoon tweet, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said he would veto the section of the state budget that funds the legislature.
The tweet was in response to Texas House Democrats walking out during a legislative session over the weekend. The move blocked the governor’s priority election bill.
“No pay for those who abandon their responsibilities. Stay tuned,” said Gov. Abbott in a tweet.
Senate Bill 7 would have reduced polling hours, empowered poll watchers and scaled back ways to vote in Texas.
Governor Abbott called the bill’s failure “deeply disappointing”.
He said he would call a special session to get it passed. The timeline for that special session is unclear.
