Full story

In about a week, Americans will head to the polls to cast their ballot for who they believe should lead the country. This is the first presidential election since President Joe Biden beat out then-President Donald Trump, leading to riots at the United States Capitol and false claims the election was stolen.

Now, many Americans are concerned history will repeat itself this election cycle.

A new AP-NORC poll shows about 4 in 10 people (42%) are “extremely” or “very” concerned about potential attempts to violently overturn the 2024 election results. About the same amount of people (38%) are worried about legal efforts to do so.

One in three (33%) voters say they’re “extremely” or “very” concerned about attempts by local or state election officials to stop the results from being finalized.

More than three-quarters (77%) of voters have faith Vice President Kamala Harris will accept the results of the election, according to the poll. Only about a third (33%) said the same about former President Donald Trump.
