There are questions over what a victory by former President Donald Trump means for the war in Ukraine. Republicans have been critical of continued U.S. military support as the country struggles to fight off Russia.
The now President-elect Trump and his running mate Vice President-elect JD Vance have questioned American commitment to Kyiv. Trump has claimed he could quickly end the war, though he hasn’t offered specifics on how he would get it done.
His opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris campaigned on steadfast support for Ukraine’s efforts to fend off Russian forces.
As Straight Arrow News reported, a crucial moment has been reached in Russia’s war in Ukraine. Moscow is making steady gains in the eastern Donbas region and Ukrainian forces on the front lines are reportedly in need of “constant renewal of resources.”
Still, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed confidence and optimism on Wednesday, Nov. 6, that the two leaders can work together to bring “just peace in Ukraine closer.”
Zelenskyy congratulated Trump on his victory and said he looks “forward to an era of a strong United States of America under President Trump’s decisive leadership.”
“We rely on continued strong bipartisan support for Ukraine in the United States,” Zelenskyy added.
While Ukraine congratulated Trump on his victory, Russia’s response wasn’t heaped in praise. The Kremlin stated there are no plans from Putin to congratulate the president-elect.
Russia acknowledged the U.S. remains a hostile state and said only time will tell if Trump’s promise to end the war in Ukraine becomes reality.
