Okaloosa County, Florida, is considering a $9 million agreement to acquire a historic vessel for an artificial reef, aiming to boost diving tourism as part of a five-year investment.
Officials have until Oct. 4 to finalize the deal, but a vote was postponed due to “a wrinkle with pier operators,” delaying any actions until after the Sept. 17 meeting.
Local officials postponed the vote on purchasing and sinking the SS United States, marking a setback for the planned artificial reef project.
