The Justice Department has filed a lawsuit seeking over $100 million from the two corporations responsible for the container ship that collapsed Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge in March. This penalty aims to cover government costs for the wreckage cleanup and reopening the Port of Baltimore after removing 50,000 tons of debris.
The civil lawsuit is the federal government’s initial action following the Dali container ship striking a vital support column of the Key Bridge. The lawsuit was filed in Maryland and notes a number of failures by Dali which caused the accident.
